Flyover Canada Review: Is It Worth It? My Vancouver Experience
Want to fly across Canada without leaving Vancouver? At Flyover, you can soar over mountains, coastlines and prairies, feeling the breeze and even smelling the prairie grass along the way.
I’ve been to Flyover Vancouver many times, including to see the newer Awaken Canada film, and I still find it exhilarating. I even took my mum once, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our day together at Canada Place.
So, is it worth the ticket price? I think so, and I’d happily pay full price to go again.
There are a few things to consider before buying tickets, though, especially if you’re sensitive to motion, scents or flashing lights, or have difficulty standing for extended periods.

What Is Flyover Vancouver?
Flyover is an immersive flying theatre at Canada Place in downtown Vancouver. You’re suspended in front of a massive curved screen, with your feet dangling and your seat moving as though you’re flying.
It’s not just what you see, either. Wind, mist, scents and music all add to the experience.
The attraction originally opened in 2013 as FlyOver Canada. Today, its signature Canadian film is called Awaken Canada, although you’ll still hear people use the original name.

What to Expect During the Experience
Before the Ride Begins
After checking in for your scheduled time, you’ll join the queue for the introductory presentation.
One thing I’ve noticed during my visits is how much standing is involved. You might be waiting for a while before entering the first theatre.
The pre-show lasts around six to eight minutes, with screens along both sides of the room. There are a few benches, but most people stand to watch.
Afterwards, staff direct everyone into smaller groups to board the ride. The regular route involves stairs, although accessible alternatives are available.
What Does It Actually Feel Like?
This is my favourite part!
Once you’re strapped in, your seat moves forward, and your feet dangle above the floor. The enormous screen fills your view, and suddenly you’re flying over Canada.
What makes it so much fun is how everything works together:
- Movement: Your seat tilts as you soar over different landscapes.
- Wind: You feel a breeze against your face.
- Mist: There’s a light spray of water at certain moments.
- Scents: You can even smell things like prairie grass.
I’m sensitive to fragrances, but I’ve never found the scents overpowering. They add to the experience rather than distract from it.
There’s something exhilarating about seeing Canada this way. I’ve travelled around the country quite a bit, but there are places and perspectives I’d never get to experience otherwise.
The flight lasts around eight to ten minutes, and it goes by far too quickly!

Which Flying Experiences Can You Choose?
Awaken Canada
If it’s your first visit, I’d start with Awaken Canada.
I’ve experienced both the original Canadian film and the newer version, which launched in 2024. I’ve seen Awaken Canada about twice, and I still enjoy it.
I love seeing familiar places alongside landscapes I’ve never visited. Sometimes I find myself wondering exactly where a scene was filmed so I can add it to my travel wish list.
Flyover also provides information about the locations featured in the film, which is a nice touch.
Halloween, Christmas and Other Destinations
I’ve also experienced HowlOver Canada, the Halloween version, and thought it was pretty fun.
It’s a playful twist on the Canadian journey, with a witch you follow through the scenery. I wouldn’t describe it as particularly scary.
Other films include:
- Soar With Santa: A festive experience offered around Christmas.
- Call of the Canadian Rockies: A journey through the Rockies.
- International experiences: Films featuring destinations outside Canada, including Hawaii.
I’ve seen a Hawaii-themed film too, and enjoyed the change of scenery.
The lineup changes throughout the year, so check what’s showing before booking.
Is the Double Feature Worth It?
You can also buy a double feature ticket to experience two films during the same visit.
I’ve never booked this option myself, but I’d be interested in pairing Awaken Canada with an international destination.
It’s generally better value than buying two separate tickets. Allow around 90 minutes for the combined experience.
For a first visit, though, I think the single Canadian experience is a good place to start.
Ticket Prices and Booking Tips
I’d book online before visiting, especially on weekends, holidays or during the summer. That way, you can choose your experience and preferred time.
There are several ticket options:
- Single experience: Best for first-time visitors.
- Double feature: Two films at a discounted combined price.
- Annual passes: Worth considering if you live nearby and want to return.
- Gift tickets: A fun option for birthdays, Christmas or other special occasions.
If you’re a BC resident, check whether local discounts are available. You may need to show valid BC identification.
Before purchasing, check which film is included and whether your booking allows changes or cancellations.

Accessibility, Motion Sickness and Sensory Considerations
Flyover is a joyful experience for me, but the movement and sensory effects won’t suit everyone.
Standing and Mobility
One thing I’d especially consider is the amount of standing before the ride.
There’s the initial queue, a standing pre-show and another wait before boarding. Flyover advises visitors to expect approximately 20 to 30 minutes of standing.
There are limited benches in the introductory theatre, and the standard route includes stairs.
However, the attraction offers elevators and wheelchair accommodations. Guests who cannot transfer into the moving seats may be able to use a stationary viewing area.
If you have mobility concerns, I’d contact Flyover before your visit to arrange assistance rather than assuming you’ll need to manage the regular queues and stairs.
Motion Sickness and Sensory Effects
The moving seats and enormous screen create a convincing sensation of flying, including simulated heights and sudden changes in perspective.
Flyover also uses wind, mist, scents and flashing lights.
I’m sensitive to fragrances, but I’ve personally found the scents pleasant and fairly subtle. Of course, someone with different sensitivities might have another experience.
The official safety warnings include motion sickness, fear of heights, photosensitive epilepsy, certain heart conditions and chronic back or neck pain. Pregnant visitors are also advised not to ride.
If any of those concerns apply to you, review the attraction’s safety guidance before purchasing tickets.

Practical Tips for Visiting
Flyover is located at Canada Place, right along Vancouver’s downtown waterfront.
It’s easy to reach by public transit. Waterfront Station is only a short walk away, with connections to the SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express.
A few tips from my visits:
- Book your preferred time in advance, particularly during busy periods.
- Arrive early so you’re not rushing to check in.
- Allow 40 to 60 minutes for a single experience, including waiting.
- Plan for some standing, or arrange accessibility assistance ahead of time.
- Leave time to enjoy Canada Place rather than rushing off immediately afterwards.
I especially recommend walking along the Canadian Trail, the waterfront promenade at Canada Place.
You’ll find markers celebrating Canada’s provinces and territories, along with views of the harbour and North Shore mountains.
When I visited with my mum, spending time around Canada Place was part of what made the outing so memorable.
You can also visit the nearby Vancouver Lookout for a different perspective on the city.

FAQs About Flyover Experience in Vancouver
Can you take photos or videos during the ride?
No, photography and filming aren’t permitted during the flying experience. You can take photos around the entrance and outside at Canada Place.
Is Flyover Vancouver open year-round?
Yes, Flyover operates throughout the year, with seasonal and limited-time films alongside its Canadian experience. Opening hours and available films may change, so check the schedule when booking.
Can you visit if you’re afraid of heights?
The ride simulates flying high above the ground, with your feet dangling and your seat moving. If you have a strong fear of heights, it may not be comfortable for you, even though you’re safely secured in your seat.
Is Flyover Vancouver Worth It?
For me, absolutely. I’ve enjoyed Flyover enough to return many times, and I still get excited when the flight begins.
For transparency, I previously worked in Vancouver’s tourism industry and received complimentary or discounted tickets for some of my visits.
Even so, I’d happily pay full price.
The biggest drawback is how short the actual flight is compared with the time you spend waiting. If you’re expecting a lengthy attraction, you might find the experience a little expensive.
But I think the sensation of flying across Canada, especially with the wind, scents and movement, makes those few minutes memorable.
It’s also a lovely experience to share with someone. Taking my mum there and seeing how much she enjoyed it is one of my favourite memories of visiting.
If you love travelling, Canadian scenery or trying something a little different in Vancouver, I’d recommend experiencing Awaken Canada at least once.
And if you’re looking for a Vancouver birthday, anniversary or Christmas present, Flyover also makes a fun experience gift.
