Dropping down the side of the canyon to the narrowest section of the Fraser River, the gondola gives you a view of the same churning waters that challenged Simon Fraser during his Gold Rush Trail journey.

I went here years ago with my dad on a road trip north. It’s not the kind of place I’d plan a whole trip around, but if you’re already driving to Kamloops or further into BC’s interior, it’s a fun and memorable way to break up the drive.

Most people spend 60 minutes here before continuing their drive. My dad and I made a trip here specifically. It was a long drive and we didn’t stay for very long after we took some photos and had some fries is the diner.

The scenery and atmosphere are beautiful and peaceful, but the drive back, stuck in traffic, wasn’t very much fun.

Is Hell’s Gate Airtram Worth It?

I’ll be honest — Hell’s Gate isn’t a place I’d go out of my way for. The main attraction is the tram ride down into the Fraser Canyon, and once you’re at the bottom, there’s a suspension bridge, some viewing platforms, and a fudge shop. It’s fun for the novelty, but it’s not an all-day destination.

That said, if you’re already on a Fraser Canyon or Gold Rush Trail road trip, it’s an easy add-on that breaks up the drive. I went with my dad years ago, and the combination of history, engineering, and sheer force of the Fraser River made it a memorable stop.
