Things to Do Between Kamloops and Revelstoke: Best Stops
Looking for the best things to do between Kamloops and Revelstoke? Don’t just race through this stretch of Highway 1 — turn it into one of the most scenic, memorable parts of your BC road trip.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or tackling a longer Rainforest to Rockies route, this drive has become one of my personal favourites after half a dozen trips over the past few years.
I’ve spent slow mornings on Mara Lake, caught golden hour at the Salmon Arm wharf, and pulled over for spontaneous stops at quirky spots like the Three Valley Gap Ghost Town.
In this post, I’m sharing the must-see stops that go beyond gas stations and fast food — think crystal-clear lakes, local fruit stands, cultural landmarks, and one weird roadside attraction that totally surprised me (and will probably surprise you too).
If you want your road trip to feel like an experience instead of just a commute, this guide’s for you.

1. Take a Scenic Break at Sun Peaks Resort
Just 45 minutes from Kamloops, Sun Peaks is a ski resort that turns into a mountain biking and hiking destination in summer.
- Ride the chairlift for views of alpine meadows and forested valleys
- Hike short trails like the Vista Trail — smooth, peaceful, and full of wildflowers
- Rent a mountain bike or e-bike to explore downhill and cross-country routes
- Stop for coffee or lunch in the quiet village surrounded by mountains
I stayed here during a summer trip and did the Vista Trail. It was easy to manage and full of views I still think about.
You’ll find a few soft adventure options that make this worth the detour from Highway 1, especially if you’re looking for a quiet trail or a scenic lunch stop. You can also check what summer activities are offered before planning your route.

📍 Best early stop if you want nature and space to reset before driving deeper into the Shuswap.
2. Walk the Wharf in Salmon Arm
Salmon Arm is one of the most peaceful spots between Kamloops and Revelstoke. It’s right off the highway but feels like a full reset — calm lake, fresh produce, and easy places to sit and stay awhile.
- Walk the longest wooden wharf in North America
- Pick up fruit, baked goods, or picnic supplies at DeMille’s or the farmers’ market
- Sit by the lake at Marine Peace Park and watch the boats
- Grab coffee and wander downtown or along the waterfront trail
I’ve stopped here on almost every road trip through this stretch. I usually pick up snacks and stretch my legs, but sometimes I stay longer, just to enjoy the stillness at the wharf or catch the evening light over the lake. If you’re planning to pass through, there are plenty more ideas to help you make the most of your stop.

3. Swim, Snack, or Stay at Mara Lake & Sicamous
This is where summer slows down in the best way. I’ve stayed here for years, swimming off docks, boating with friends, and grabbing peaches and garlic on the way home. It’s one of the most memorable stretches between Kamloops and Revelstoke.
- Public beaches and lake access in Sicamous
- Dock access, boating, tubing, and paddleboarding
- Roadside fruit stands for peaches, plums, and garlic
- Small-town marina and takeout options are perfect for picnics
Mara Lake is quieter than Shuswap, with a softer vibe and fewer crowds. Some of the best moments here come from doing nothing — just floating in the sun, snacking on fruit, and watching the day drift by.
📍 Plan an extra hour here, even if you weren’t going to stop. You won’t regret it.

4. Snap a Photo at the Last Spike in Craigellachie
This is one of those tiny stops with big meaning. Craigellachie is where the Last Spike was driven to complete the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885, linking Canada from coast to coast.
- Small pullout with signage and photo opp
- Replica of the Last Spike and quick interpretive display
- Picnic tables and a short stop for a break
- Great for history lovers or anyone on a cross-Canada trip
I’ve stopped here more than once — usually with snacks in hand and five minutes to spare. It’s not flashy, but there’s something powerful about standing where the country was connected for the first time.
📍 Easy pull-off, low effort, and surprisingly meaningful.

5. Stop for a Quick Break at Three Valley Gap
Right before Revelstoke, you’ll spot a row of old-time buildings beside a glacial lake. That’s Three Valley Gap — part ghost town, part hotel, part quirky photo stop.
- Heritage-style village with vintage cars and trains (open in summer)
- Great pullout for lake photos or a leg stretch
- Quick detour that adds a little character to the drive
- Optional overnight at the on-site resort if you want something different
I’ve stopped here more than once — even just for a few photos and some fresh air. If you’re road tripping with kids or just love odd roadside attractions, this one’s worth the pull-off.
📍 It’s the kind of stop that breaks up the drive in a fun, unexpected way.
6. Take a Nature Break at Victor Lake or Moses Creek Falls
Need a quieter pause before reaching Revelstoke? These two stops offer calm, scenic alternatives to more touristy spots.
- Victor Lake Provincial Park: Small day-use area with a lake view and picnic spot
- Moses Creek Falls: Short forest trail to a tucked-away waterfall (trailhead just off Hwy 1)
- Great places to stretch your legs and breathe some mountain air
- Usually quiet, especially on weekdays
📍 If you’ve had your fill of road trip snacks and gas stations, these are peaceful resets before rolling into town.

7. End Your Drive in Revelstoke
Revelstoke is more than just a place to sleep — it’s a small mountain town with big energy. Whether you’re arriving in the afternoon or staying the night, there’s a lot to look forward to.
- Walkable downtown with local shops and restaurants
- Riverside parks and short trails are perfect for unwinding
- Basecamp for waterfalls, alpine hikes, and hot springs nearby
- More than just a ski town — it shines in summer and fall too
This is where your slow road trip shifts gears. You’ve earned a good meal, a sunset stroll, or maybe just a quiet night in a comfy room.
📍 Take a breath — you made it.

Getting to Revelstoke (and Around Once You’re There)
Revelstoke isn’t on a major flight path — but that’s part of the charm. You can reach it by car, shuttle, or even train, depending on your route.
🚗 By Car: Most visitors arrive via the Trans-Canada Highway. It’s about 2.5–3 hours from Kamloops or Golden, and 6–7 hours from Vancouver. You’ll want your own vehicle for lake days, short hikes, and flexible stops.
🚌 By Shuttle: Seasonal shuttles run from Kelowna and Kamloops, especially in winter for ski season. Options are limited in summer, so plan ahead.
🚉 By Train: VIA Rail serves Revelstoke on select routes — it’s scenic but infrequent.
🚲 Getting Around Town: Downtown is walkable, and Revelstoke’s bike paths and e-bike rentals make short-distance travel easy. For nearby lakes or trailheads, a car is still your best bet.
