DoubleTree by Hilton Kamloops Hotel Review: Downtown Stay

Looking for a calm, comfortable place to stay in Kamloops, somewhere walkable, central, and welcoming after a full day of travel or exploring?

During my recent 3-day visit, I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kamloops and found it was exactly what I needed. The location made it easy to walk to cafés, galleries, and parks without driving, and my King room offered plenty of space to relax between outings.

I noticed several other guests had arrived via the Rocky Mountaineer and were using the hotel as a one-night stop, but it’s equally suited to couples, older families, or anyone looking for a classy, slower-paced stay right in the heart of the city.

If you’re considering a stay in Kamloops, here’s what it’s really like to check into the DoubleTree.

I was hosted by Tourism Kamloops and received a complimentary stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Downtown Kamloops. All opinions are my own. I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel during my 3-day stay in Kamloops.

Check-in was quick and friendly. The lobby has:

  • A few end tables and lounge chairs

Hotel Amenities

The DoubleTree Kamloops has the basics covered if you’re looking for a quiet, downtown place to sleep between outings.

Here’s what I noticed:

  • Free Wi-Fi worked reliably in the room and lobby
  • Underground parking is available for $14 per night
  • Seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub, but they’re only accessible from the second floor down a set of stairs
  • Small fitness room, also located downstairs, with no direct elevator access; you need to ask the staff to let you in through an outside door
  • On-site restaurant and lounge, though I didn’t try it during my stay
  • Meeting and event rooms, mostly used for conferences
  • Elevator access to the guest room floors and lobby, but not to all shared amenities

The hotel itself was clean, and the staff were friendly, but I was really surprised by how inaccessible the pool and fitness room setup was. If you’re expecting easy access to those spaces, especially with mobility concerns, this might not be the right fit.

The King Room: Comfortable, Quiet, and Functional

I stayed in a King Room, and it was exactly what I needed after full days of walking around downtown Kamloops and driving from Vancouver.

What stood out:

  • The bed was genuinely comfortable: firm but not hard, with soft linens.
  • The room was quiet at night, even with the window open.
  • I had enough space to spread out my things without feeling cramped.

The decor is nice, neutral, clean, and uncluttered. There was a small desk, an armchair, a TV, and plenty of outlets for charging devices. Everything was in good condition and working order.

The bathroom was clean and had good water pressure. There was enough counter space for toiletries, but it didn’t feel very accessible.

The layout was tight, and there wasn’t much room to turn around. While there was a grab bar in the shower, the space itself wouldn’t work well for someone using a mobility aid.

I didn’t spend a lot of time in the room during the day, but it made a good base for resting and resetting between outings.

Pros

  • Central location within walking distance of murals, galleries, and restaurants
  • Comfortable king bed and quiet room at night
  • Reliable Wi-Fi
  • Underground parking available
  • Friendly, helpful staff

Cons

  • The pool and fitness centre are not accessible by elevator
  • You need to ask the staff to unlock a side door just to use these areas
  • Amenities like the pool and gym are tucked downstairs and awkward to get to

Value and Recommendation

For a centrally located stay in downtown while exploring Kamloops, the DoubleTree offers solid value. The room was quiet and comfortable, and being able to walk to dinner, galleries, and cultural sites made the trip feel more relaxed.

The location is in a safe part of the city, which makes it ideal for nights out in Kamloops.

This hotel works well if you’re planning to be out most of the day and just need a clean, reliable base with good service. Just keep in mind that some amenities are not easily accessible, especially the pool and fitness area.

If walkability and convenience are priorities, the location is hard to beat.

Helpful Tips for Planning Your Kamloops Trip

Kamloops works well as a base for short, low-effort days outside or quieter cultural stops downtown. A few things I wish more guides mentioned:

  • Downtown is the easiest place to stay without a car. Most cafés, the art gallery, the museum, and the River Trail are within a few blocks.
  • Nature is close even if you’re staying downtown. Kenna Cartwright Park, Riverside Park, and Peterson Creek all offer short trails and viewpoints that don’t require a full hiking day.
  • Plan for temperature swings. Even in shoulder seasons, Kamloops moves from warm afternoons to chilly evenings quickly. Layers help more than you think.
  • Kamloops Restaurants may close earlier than expected. Especially outside summer. Check hours before you head out and have a backup option in mind.
  • Transit exists, but it’s limited. Most visitors rely on a car, rideshare, or walking, so choosing a central stay really helps.

What to Pair With a Downtown Stay

If you’re booking the DoubleTree and want easy, low-stress add-ons, these are within reach without long drives.

  • Murals and public art. The downtown core is compact, so it’s easy to make a loop of the pieces around Victoria Street and 4th Avenue.
  • Kamloops Art Gallery and the Museum & Archives. Both are calm, manageable in under an hour, and good options when you want something quieter.
  • Sunset at Riverside Park. A gentle walk with mountain views and river access, only a short walk from downtown.
  • Coffee stops. There are several independent cafés close enough for a slow morning before heading out for the day.
  • A half-day nature outing. Kenna Cartwright is a short drive away and has trails suited to different abilities, including easy viewpoints for a quick change of scenery.

Where to Go Next

If Kamloops is part of a longer road trip, you’ve got a few easy next moves depending on how much time you have and what kind of day you want.

Salmon Arm

About 1 hour away.
A calm lakeside stop with cafés, short walks, and plenty of places to sit by the water. It works well if you want a gentler travel day before heading further east.

Revelstoke

About 2 hours away.
Good for travellers who want a mix of nature, viewpoints, and a compact downtown that’s easy to navigate. You can pair it with a visit to the railway museum or nearby day-use areas.

Merritt

About 1 hour away.
A quieter interior town with local shops and a few short nature walks nearby. It’s a helpful stopping point if you’re looping back toward Vancouver.
