Things To Do In Kamloops At Night For Every Budget

When the sun sets over the Thompson Valley, Kamloops doesn’t shut down; it just shifts gears. From stargazing spots and evening art walks to cozy dinners downtown, there are plenty of things to do in Kamloops at night.

During my visit to Kamloops, I stayed downtown and enjoyed the local restaurants, followed by checking out the murals as I walked back to my hotel on the well-lit sidewalks.

When I return, I hope to check out some theatre products and open-mic nights. Sadly, these weren’t running during the days of my visit.

Let’s get started with picking out a few entertaining things to do at night!

1. Stargazing Near Kamloops

With low light pollution and clear skies through much of the year, Kamloops is one of the best places in BC for stargazing.

Stake Lake Star Park & Observatory — Off Lac Le Jeune Rd (~30 min south). The Kamloops Astronomical Society hosts public observing nights seasonally; the site’s open sky makes it a local favourite for star-hopping. Check KAS for typical dates.
Lac du Bois Grasslands (Batchelor area pullouts) — Head north via Lac du Bois Rd for wide-open horizons and darker skies than in town; multiple gravel pullouts along the rolling hills. Be gentle on the fragile grassland.
Kenna Cartwright Park (city views after dusk) — For night cityscapes rather than true dark skies, the upper viewpoints are accessible until late evening; gates close overnight, but posted hours run to 11 pm.

Tip: Bring a headlamp with a red-light setting, a camp chair, and warm layers. Fall and winter nights in Kamloops can get cold fast.

2. Mural Walk After Dark

Kamloops’ Back Alley Art Gallery turns downtown into an open-air museum. Murals stretch between 3rd and 6th Avenue off Victoria Street, and they take on a completely different feel at night under the streetlights.

Where: Alleys downtown between Seymour, Victoria & Lansdowne, roughly 2nd–6th Avenues.
Why at night: Evenings are quieter, and many murals are well-lit by shop lights; start around 4th Ave and wander the lanes. Grab the official self-guided PDF to follow key pieces.
Start near Victoria Street West and work your way toward Riverside Park for an easy loop.
Evening light makes for interesting photos. Shadows add depth, and the downtown streets are quieter.

3. Films & Arthouse Screenings

Paramount Theatre (Kamloops Film Society) — Year-round evening screenings in a classic downtown cinema; the annual Kamloops Film Festival typically runs in March. 503 Victoria St.

4. Theatre & Live Performance

Sagebrush Theatre — Mainstage venue for Western Canada Theatre, touring shows, and concerts; most performances are in the evening. 1300 9th Ave.

5. Live Music & Nightlife (low-key options)

Pizza Pi on Victoria — Community-oriented pizzeria with a Friday open mic (typical), plus clearly labelled vegan pizza options with dairy-free cheese and plant-based toppings. 314 Victoria St.
The Blue Grotto — Live bands most weekends (doors in the evening); check the events calendar for weeknight shows. 319 Victoria St.
Commodore Grand Café & Lounge — Long-running downtown lounge with late hours; schedules vary, but it’s known for music/dance nights and occasional open mics—confirm week-of. 369 Victoria St.

6. Late-Night Coffee or Dessert Adjacent

Red Beard Café — North Shore staple that stays open to about 10 pm most nights; good for a post-show coffee or casual bite without a pub vibe. 449 Tranquille Rd.
